This magazine was already very good in paper, but with this app GT is the closest thing to having a bunch of personal guitar tutors...and way cheaper!!

The British know how to do magazines. Guitar Techniques is well written, contains lots of informative lessons, and the videos bring it all together. Im glad its on News Stand because its much cheaper and easier to get to here on my iPad.
Whenever I head to my local bookstore and check out the new issues of all the guitar magazines theyre all 90% fluff and 10% actual content. This magazine is the exact opposite. There are so many amazing lessons in every issue. From theory to fully tabbed songs to practice licks and phrases. I love the playable tab and videos that are incorporated in the issues now. Also the price point is much more friendly through newsstand. Its a win all around. If you love playing the guitar do yourself a favor and pick it up. The one criticism I have is purely selfish on my part. Im still a beginner and it does feel like the magazine is generally geared more towards advanced lessons. Id like a touch more material for people starting out.
App freezes. This is on the 8.4.1 iOS iPad gen 4. Ive used the app for over a year. Removing the app, restarting, and reinstall seemed to solve the problem
Best guitar magazine Ive seen around. They have a lot of content and tabs for how to actually improve and learn guitar rather than just telling you to play cliche jazz licks til your brain turns to mush. Keep up the great work
Check out the Cooking Light app, now! While not perfect, there one thing that sets this app millions of miles above the rest. FULL PAGE SAMPLES!!! Because it doesnt have the micro-view offered by Zino and other Newsstand apps you can actually SEE what an issue offers. You almost want to buy every issue, matter of fact Im getting a subscription! Imagine-FX, Guitar Techniques, Official Xbox Magazine, Zino and Future Publishing, pay attention and see how its done right. Bravo Cookling Light Magazine! Who would think to take a great magazine like Guitar Techniques and put it in an app that is unreadable? The blurry cover and Table Of Contents offers no temptation to purchase the magazine or get subscriptions. So you are left with searching for the issue online in hopes of finds a clear description of what is being offered that month. Too much work! Low tech app for a high tech mag. What a shame!
I am an intermediate player and I have a fairly good understanding of Music Theory. I know those words scare a lot of beginning and advanced guitarist. But the way the theory is presented in Guitar Techniques is painless. Little bits at a time, at your own speed. I Think that anyone wanting to learn some music theory along side the TAB method that this is a great "Text Book" for that.
Guitar Techniques is a great monthly online subscription, I find myself reading from cover to cover and playing along with the song transcriptions backups and lessons with audio and videos. The ability to resize the screen while concentrating on a part or to hear the part played with full backing track is invaluable to me for keeping up my playing chops and learning new techniques. I had been buying the newsstand magazine until I discovered the iPad version, now that I subscribe to the online version I can keep a large amount of the magazines on my iPad or archive my collection and call them back up when I need to look at them again. I save space when I am on airplane trips across country as I can use my iPad for an amp and play along with the magazine through headphones wherever I am.
The app is slow, cumbersome to use, and tries to cheat the rating system by showing a fake rating screen inside the app.
Theres a lot to like about this app, and a lot of great material, but the backing tracks dont work at all, and the tempo of the full performance tracks modified, which makes learning the riffs more difficult. Giving the user the ability to slow down the tracks would seem like a no-brainer for an app and magazine designed to teach techniques. Hopefully theyll update it at some point. But the failure of the backing tracks to load is a real problem they need to fix right away
The tracks dont play. The track animation moves but no sound comes out! What a dud!
Asked me to rate the app and when I gave it 1 Star it opened my email instead of saving the ranking to the App Store.
This app is awesome!
First let me say I also get the paper edition of the magazine delivered to my house and I use the app as a companion for that. But I love it. I look forward to it coming each month, although it is always a few months behind I suppose because it comes from England. Anyway I think the magazine is extraordinary. You could study each one for months or maybe years. Also, unlike the previous reviewers, I have never had problem with the backing tracks or the sound.
Great Mag and App!
